Even if you don’t have COVID symptoms like a loss of taste or smell, coughing, or fever, you might still have the virus and can spread it to others. Another reason to get tested is that you might be asymptomatic (you have the virus but never develop symptoms) or pre-symptomatic (you’re COVID-positive, but your symptoms haven’t shown up yet). Getting tested allows you to seek medical treatment before symptoms worsen and to protect your loved ones from infection.
PCR tests detect RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the COVID-19 virus. The ability to detect the virus within days of infection, even in those with no symptoms, affords our residents an advantage in keeping themselves and our communities informed.
PCR tests occur in various settings such as clinics, hospitals, or even in a car. PCR results are typically provided within a 2-3-day window. Depending on public demand, we can also produce results within 24 hours.
