The Charles County Department of Health provides immunizations through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program to eligible children through 18 years of age. Our goal is to educate and assist caregivers with making decisions that will protect them, their children, and the community. We offer back-to-school, childhood, preteen and adolescent vaccines.
A child is eligible for the VFC Program if he or she is younger than 19 years of age and is:
- Covered by Medical Assistance
- Underinsured (has health insurance that doesn’t cover vaccines)
- American Indian or Alaska Native
Children with private health insurance should schedule immunization appointments with their Primary Health Care Provider.
Here at the Charles County Department of Health, we provide all of the required vaccines for entry into Maryland schools.

It is important to vaccinate children because their immune systems are not strong enough to fight serious diseases. Immunizing children also helps protect the community. Children who are too young to be vaccinated and people who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons count on vaccinated individuals to prevent the spread of diseases.
The childhood vaccines we offer are:
Birth – 6 years
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Pneumococcal (PCV13)
- Varicella (Chicken Pox)
7 years – 11 years
- Meningococcal (MCV4)
Pre-teen and Adolescent Vaccines
It is important to continue vaccinating preteens and adolescents. This age group is more susceptible to certain infections due to fading immunity and social habits. Pre-teens and adolescents need the following vaccines:
- Meningococcal (MCV4)
Documents to Bring
If the child is covered by Medical Assistance, please bring the child’s Medical Assistance card.
If the child has never been vaccinated at the Charles County Department of Health, immunization records must be received prior to the appointment to determine which vaccine(s) your child needs.
